Link bait is a technical term that describes a website tool to entice or attract incoming links to a certain site. Link baiting is used to call the attention of web users to visit a website, increase traffic, and as a result, generates sufficient materials that is linked to and picked up by other websites.

Link baiting also propels a site to rise in the search engine ranking since a lot of search engines view the number of websites linked to another website. It also takes a look on the quality and value of the sites being linked to.

Link baits are very helpful in promoting and strengthening the image of a website, despite the fact that not all link baits are thought to be very effective. Link baits come in two types: good and bad link baits. These link baits are based on the links effectiveness, not on their attitudes.

Good link baits

Good link baits are helpful in promoting a website. Good link bait is meaningful, effective, perceptive, original, interesting, and acceptable to a lot of web users. It also offers perks to visitors through contents.

One example of good link baiting is Daniel Scocco’s post entitled 43 Web Design Mistakes You Should Avoid. It is a very informative and wide-ranging article that lures as many as 350 comments. Nevertheless, DailyBlogTips.com does not show track backs. But by assessing a lot of comments, we can imagine that it generates a lot of back links that the articles receive.

Bad link baits

Contrary to good link baiting, bad link baiting is issuing litigious or controversial contents which are considered very effective and at the same time highly distasteful.

A good example of bad link baiting is a post from Shoemoney: SEO has no Future. It is a very controversial post that has not only attracted the curiosity of visitors but has also gained a lot of backlink, like Blogsessive and daunting comments.
